The North Face Skareb Ventilator Cross-Training Shoes

Purchased from: REI.com
Purchase Date: May 2008
Rating: UNFIT

I bought these for $65 on sale from REI. I liked to weight and the ventilation, as the name implies. I first used the shoe on the Half Dome 2008 trip.  Within the first miles I was developing blisters at the same location on both outsides of my feet.  I had broken in the shoes amply (in shorter walks); I also normally don't get blisters. I tried them again on the Cross-Sierra Whitney trip. About 15 miles into Day 1, I noticed that the rubber grips were already ripped off one of the soles and half on the other. I developed the same blisters as on the Half Dome trip. I noticed that the thin fabric on the inside had ripped in a 1.5-inch circle on the same (mirrored) side on both shoes. This shoe is not fit for trail use. My previous Salomen running shoes, which I purchased for $20, held up for hundreds of miles until I recently retired them. I returned these shoes to REI.
